Feb 01, 2010 (LBO) – Sriyan De Silva Wijeratne, country manager of Microsoft Sri Lanka has been elected a board representative of Youth Business International, a UK-based charity, its partner organization in Colombo said.
De Silva Wijerantne is a founder trustee of Youth Business Sri Lanka which is affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the island’s most influential trade body.
It supports enterprising youth to start businesses through concessionary credit and business mentoring.
The Youth Business International was founded in the UK in 2000 and has a network of spanning 40 countries in six continents. Its president is Britain’s Prince of Wales.
De Silva Wijeratne is one of two elected members who will represent 12 countries at the parent body at quarterly board meetings.
The other elected member is David Stewart-Patterson, who is the executive vice President of the Canadian council of chief executives and vice chair, Canadian Youth Business Foundation.
He holds a Masters’ degree from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura, and is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants – UK.
